The Prime Minister was originally in favour of the debates but changed his mind ahd the BBC tried to organise a leaders debate.

He then said it would be unfair on the Greens and that he would only take part if their leader was invited to take part too. The PM however totally ruled out going head to head with Ed Miliband in a separate debate, which only resulted in yet more calls of cowardly behaviour from many.
