Queen's Speech David Cameron cartoon

David Cameron cartoon.

The Prime Minister delivers the Queen's Speech having been newly enthroned as the first Conservative Prime Minister with a majority since 1997.

The result came as a shock to many and with the Labour vote split across the protest parties it was simply a matter of the Tories waiting to take over as a majority government after 5 years in coalition with the Liberal Democrats who suffered catastrophic losses on the night and was followed by the swift resignation of Nick Clegg. The election also saw the resignation of the Labour leader Ed Miliband and Green Party leader Natalie Bennett and the only leader who said he would stand down if unelected, Nigel Farage, was the only one has refused to go.
