The CQC watchdog charged by the government with over-seeing NHS care provision was caught napping when it was revealed it doesn't work weekends. As patient care is 24/7 and people don't choose when to become ill or require emergency treatment it seemed a remarkable oversight to allow this state of affairs to prevail.
